READY FOR SOCHI: NBC’s Today show isn’t alone in its countdown to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. At ISPO Munich Sunday, the skiwear label Bogner got in on the action, celebrating its reputation for dressing Germany’s Olympic teams since 1936 and its commitment to next year’s Games. German athletes have marched into Olympic stadiums 18 times in a row wearing the brand’s signature B on their zippers. Bogner has outfitted Germany’s teams 17 times at the Winter Games, and in 2012 at the Summer Games for the first time.

Willy Bogner, who personally competed for Germany at the 1960 and 1964 Winter Games, hosted the extravaganza that featured Bogners opening ceremony outfits from 18 Olympic Games. He reminisced a bit, and talked sports with other current and past Olympians, including 2002 medal winning ski-jumper Sven Hannawald and speedskater Anni Friesinger.

Free skier and local hero Benedikt Mayr had the honor (with help from snowboarder Amelie Kober) of unveiling Bogner’s 2014 Sochi Olympic uniform. Next year will be the first time that freeski superpipe and slopestyle will be events at the 2014 Winter Games. However, it is unlikely a jetpack-powered stuntman will accompany Mayr on Feb. 7, 2014, as was the case at the Bogner bash.

Entertainment legend Frank Elstner and presenter Britta Hofmann hosted the show, which featured fast-paced athletic and circus acts, as well as sweeping cinematic shots underlining the emotional character of the Olympic opening procession.
