TOLEDO ON LEX: As part of a $46 million renovation project, the Lexington New York City recruited Ruben Toledo to design a sprawling mural that stretches from the hotel’s ground floor to the mezzanine. Called “Deco-Dance,” the piece was six months in the making and it had to be printed on canvas, seamed and then hung like wallpaper. Working on behalf of the hotel, David Ashen of Dash Design turned to Paige Powell to curate the art collection. In addition to Toledo, she brought in Alba Clemente who has created “Almost Square,” four laser-cut resin screens in the lobby, as well as “South View”another piece behind the reception desk.
