Maxime Simoens RTW Spring 2015

The show opened with a cobalt-and-white crop top printed with the slogan “#colorful is the new black.”

Seeking to give his spring collection “a bit of happiness and new energy,” Maxime Simoens did as designers in search of a pick-me-up do: He flew the flag for color, so enthusiastically that he hashtagged it. The show opened with a cobalt-and-white crop top printed with the slogan “#colorful is the new black.”

Mosaic embroideries, horizon prints and colorblocking in magenta, cobalt, aqua and orange emboldened Simoens’ typically black-and-white lineup, giving the same-old Sixties-ish silhouettes a refreshing sense of ease. The best looks were light and loose, such as a breathy group of plisséd trapeze styles, and two taut dresses draped in panels of flowing crepe that caught the breeze.
