A Degree Fahrenheit RTW Spring 2015

This is a season of firsts for Yu Amatsu.

Yu Amatsu fashioned some of his boldest looks from a slightly crinkled, pale-gray satin that resembled liquid mercury in the way it moved with the body. He worked this shimmery fabric into loose and softly draped dresses, pleated shorts, asymmetric blouses and a jumpsuit with slim pants. Throughout the collection, the designer also used another distinctive element: disembodied “sleeves” that mimicked a top tied around the waist but without the bulk in back. These were added to looks as diverse as gray sweatshirt fleece dresses, pleated navy shorts and gray satin rompers.

This is a season of firsts for Amatsu: He showed his inaugural collection for Hanae Mori on Monday, and he is making a push into men’s wear with A Degree Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, he may have spread himself a bit thin, as many of his men’s pieces were uninspired takes on casualwear: sweatpants, T-shirts and anoraks. Knee-length shorts and a tailored jacket in the same metallic material used for the women’s line were more interesting.
