'Unadorned' Beauty at Mulberry

Sam McKnight's hair at Emma Hill's swansong show for Mulberry was super simple.

LONDON — Sam McKnight's hair at Emma Hill's swansong show for Mulberry was super simple.

"Emma wanted the girls to look natural, cool and unadorned," he explained. "I always think of her as having a little bit of a Sixties black-and-white film thing going on."

He brought some texture into model's tresses using Fekkai's Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel. Hair was parted at the side with a few pieces hanging down from the front "so it's a little bit messy and untidy," McKnight said.

The only artifice was some covert braiding for a couple of the girls who had super thick hair. McKnight plaited some of their extraneous locks at the back of the scalp. "The opposite of hair extensions," he called it.

L'Oréal Paris' Mathias van Hooff cited a Sixties vibe for makeup. "The collection was prettier than usual so when we got to the fitting, we stripped down the skin so the makeup was really bare as if the girls had just come in from outside," he said.

He used L'Oréal's Eau de Teint Nude Magique foundation and focused on the eye. Brows were full and powdery and lashes built up with three or four layers of False Lash Flutter mascara for a "spidery, full effect."

Black liquid liner was drawn along the lash line and eye pencil along the water line and eyes were finished with Gelmatic Superliner mixed with Vaseline and smudged over the eyelid. Lips were sheer and nails in a nude shade.
