VERA’S EXPRESS CHECKOUT: George Clooney may be Stacy Keibler’s better half but she was very much standing on her own Tuesday morning at Vera Wang’s show. Surrounded by photographers, the towering blonde said she is gearing up for her new pilot “Supermarket Superstars,” which Harvey Weinstein’s Lifetime has picked up. The endgame is to track down nonprofessional chefs or foodies who have invented their own food product, whether that be from a favorite family recipe or anything else. The grand prize winner will walk away knowing his or her idea will actually be manufactured. “It’s really about finding the American dream,” she said.
And Keibler said her own life has been pretty majestic as of late, having just returned from an extended stay in Lake Como with Clooney. “We were there for three months. It was the most magical summer — lots of family and friends,” she said. “But I’m ready to get back to work. When Harvey calls, you don’t say, ‘No.’”
Linked as she is to Clooney, Keibler doesn’t have any trouble being recognized as an individual.
“I don’t feel that way at all,” she said.
Another guest, Yao Chen, whose films are wildly popular in China, was relishing the fact that most New Yorkers don’t recognize her. She said walking around Central Park was at the top of her list of things to do. Workwise, her newest role is in “Control,” a futuristic film that envisions what will happen 20 years from now. And the actress was dressing the part, wearing slim Vera Wang black pants and a molded printed black-and-white top. “That’s why I chose what I am wearing today. My fashion matches my role,” she said.
Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan has taken on a new role as a public diplomacy envoy with the U.S. State Department. After getting her master’s degree in international relations at Tufts University, Kwan relocated to the Beltway where she works on various projects including Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to fight childhood obesity. Kwan said, “She’s very easy to talk to. Sometimes you forget she is the First Lady of the United States.”
Kwan said she is also at ease with Wang, who used to design her skating costumes for the Winter Games. And the athlete’s sister coached Wang’s daughters when they skated as children. “I just saw Cecilia here. I hadn’t seen in her in about 10 years and she must be a foot taller.”
