No-brainer chic. Donna Karan’s DKNY collection for spring was just that. It was full of long, flowy silhouettes such as button-front tunic dresses, camisole frocks and boxy top-and-skirt combos that made for a just-throw-it-on-and-you’re-done ease. The “step dress” (and shirt and skirt) was a major shape throughout, featuring a hemline that was short in front and dipped low in back. Her color palette was equal parts neutral (cream, black, navy, tan) and bright (royal blue, red, hot pink) for head-to-toe looks that were either monochromatic or in allover prints. Even the handbags, oversize floppy hats and demonstrative wedges came in the same pattern or color scheme for that effortless everything-matches philosophy. For a bit more buttoned-up appeal, there were plenty of great tailored jackets — a tuxedo style in black and cream and also a more daring version in hot pink — as well as a sporty red, white and blue tweed suiting group that paid homage to classic Chanel.
