Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana held its 16th edition of N.U.DE, or New Upcoming Designers, in Milan on Tuesday. The runway event offered three young, emerging talents the opportunity to showcase their latest designs. First up was Mauro Gasperi’s casual, late-Eighties inspired flowy separates and roomy dresses in graphic black and white stripes, mainly with mesh inserts or accents of color, such as buttercup yellow. For his highly crafted collection, Sergei Grinko turned to Atlantis for inspiration, spinning his handmade silks printed with sea fauna into blouses, floating capes and loose or belted dresses in nuances of blue, turquoise, mint and light gray. And Francesca Liberatore injected even more aquatic themes into her collection, which she dubbed “fish couture.” Despite the name, the line had a casual, easy feel, with matte silk blouses and softly structured pants jazzed up by mottled and animal ink-jet prints.
