There was a nautical theme — stripes, sea flag prints, an ocean liner-shaped clutch — and a garden party-friendly group of sundresses.

On Tuesday evening, Kate Spade creative director Deborah Lloyd showcased the brand’s signature cheeky style by way of a new partnership. The firm is teaming up with Aussie husband-and-wife team Helen and David Lennie who own the rights to Australian artist Florence Broadhurst’s iconic wallpaper prints from the Sixties and Seventies. Kate Spade has acquired 12 of the motifs, three of which are featured in the spring lineup — a hexagon pattern and two black-and-white Japanese florals. The remaining nine will be unveiled throughout 2012 on everything from clothes to home goods to the odd Vespa scooter.


As for the rest of the lineup, there was a nautical theme — stripes, sea flag prints, an ocean liner-shaped clutch — and a garden party-friendly group of sundresses ideal, Lloyd said, for the finishing school grad/hostess type who doesn’t take herself too seriously. Standout accessories included the fluorescent orange patent pieces that popped against the black-and-white graphic prints.
