Bally RTW Spring 2012
An illustrated poster ad for Bally’s 1951 centenary celebrations offered some cues for creative directors Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz. It featured a strappy shoe engineered in a way that recalls the school-yard game cat’s cradle. For spring, the designers updated the look, offering red or camel leather sandals and platform shoes with swirling and twisted straps that had a sense of lightness. “We were thinking about the idea of a young debutante and what she would wear today,” Herz said. So the duo proposed ultralight, knee-length perforated leather coats, some featuring varying sizes and placements of the punctures; pretty pink, blue and fuchsia dresses with lace, embroidery or leather appliqués, and a crisp cotton T-shirt with padded leather shoulder treatments. The Bally deb could accessorize these looks with a structured crocodile handbag or a suede evening clutch embellished with graphic Plexi shards.
