Guests including Dita Von Teese and Maxime Simoens grooved to DJs Trentmøller, Tomorrow’s World, Busy P and Breakbot on Thursday night as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac unveiled his new collection for Coca-Cola, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
There was also a performance by hip-hop star Theophilus London, who said he was a longtime fan. “This guy’s the reason I got girls in middle school and in high school,” London claimed. “He’s really impacted my culture.”
The capsule JC/DC line for Coca-Cola includes T-shirts emblazoned with Alfred Wertheimer photographs of Elvis Presley, and a silver sequined dress featuring a Sixties-style Coke bottle. Castelbajac, whose company was recently purchased by South Korean sportswear designer and retailer EXR Korea Co., said he had just completed the U.S. adaptation of his musical “Dawn of Innocence,” which showed in Los Angeles and San Francisco this week. “It cost me an arm,” he said, gesturing toward the arm he broke during rehearsals.
French designer Ora Ito said he was gearing up for the opening of his first hotel chain, Hotel O, in Paris in December. Singer Natalia Kills was in town to shoot the video for “Kill My Boyfriend,” and reckoned it made a pleasant change from LA. “When the weather never changes, it feels like life never changes. It’s not inspiring,” she lamented.
