In New York for an overnighter, surfer Bethany Hamilton didn’t have enough time to catch any of the Quiksilver Pro action out at Long Beach.

WAVERIDERS: In New York for an overnighter, surfer Bethany Hamilton didn’t have enough time to catch any of the Quiksilver Pro action out at Long Beach. After Lela Rose’s show, the Californian and actress AnnaSophia Robb, who portrayed her in “Soul Surfer,” said they would be manning the phones at Cantor Fitzgerald’s annual fund-raiser today. The event benefits a variety of charities including Friends of Bethany Hamilton, a nonprofit that benefits amputees.

Hamilton, who lost an arm in a shark attack, offered a few tips for beginners. “Just start off in mellow waves. Of course you need someone who is a good teacher and go have fun,” she said.

Rose has been too busy focusing on trends to catch any waves, but the designer still managed to cook up something else. She gave every last one of her 460 guests some of her homemade lemon almond biscotti.
