For makeup artist Mally Roncal, one word summed up the look: “fierce!”

For makeup artist Mally Roncal at Tracy Reese, one word summed up the look: “fierce!”

“It’s very fresh, young and breezy, effortlessly undone, but fierce,” said Roncal, who started off the look with her Mally Beauty Face Defender (“no translucent powder — it is the devil,” she said) for a satin finish. Roncal completely eschewed eye shadow, using her black Volumizing Mascara on the lashes and a black eyeliner on the top lashline, winging ever so slightly at the outside corner of the eye. “It’s a long and thin line with a tiny kick,” she explained. “It’s not intended to be retro or overdone — this is the girl in high school who had the perfect eyeliner that you couldn’t duplicate.” Ronal used a strong pop of pink blush — shade depending on each model’s skin tone — above the apple of the cheek for a youthful look. Next, she applied Mally Beauty lip gloss in Be A Peach to the top lip and Life Is Fuchsia to the bottom lip and instructed models to say “mwah, mwah, mwah” to blend the colors.

Jeanie Syfu, working with TreSemme at the show, created what she called a “hybrid of Thirties, Forties and Fifties glamour with a feminine, easy, casual finish.” Syfu prepped hair with TreSemme 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse and Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray, then flatironed one-inch sections of the hair. Next, she used chopsticks to roll the hair up and around the face, with some models getting a full-on chignon and others just getting the effect around the face with hair hanging free in the back.

Jin Soon Choi, working with Sally Hansen at the show, used the brand’s Temptation, a bright pink debuting in next April, on nails.
