Backstage at Ruffian Spring 2012

WWD went behind the scenes at the spring show.

It was all about a dramatic, clean cat eye backstage at Ruffian’s spring-summer showcase, which celebrated equestrienne culture. “We channeled Countess Jacqueline de Ribes and Elizabeth Taylor with superglam elongated liner and big lashes,” said James Kaliardos, working with MAC Cosmetics at the show. Kaliardos used MAC Rapidblack Penultamate Liner “like calligraphy” to create a dramatic, winged line. Lips were left “beige and peachy” and a soft peach blush slightly contoured the face. “It’s a sharp shape [on the cheek] but in a light shade,” said Kaliardos.

 

Neil Moodie, who styled hair for Bumble and bumble, was equally influenced by women who ride. “I wanted to create a thick horse’s tail,” he said. Moodie prepped hair with Bumble and bumble Thickening Spray, layered with Styling Cream and added hair extensions to many of the models. Moodie then power-dried the products into the hair for added texture. To contrast the earthy feel of the braid, Moodie gave the front of the style a glossy finish. “It’s all about healthy, great hair,” said Moodie, who kept hair ends blunt. “It’s very thoroughbred. Very simple, but with an extra edge to it.”
