Backstage at Rodarte Spring 2012

Using Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night as inspiration, beauty at Rodarte took a dark, mystical turn.

James Kaliardos for Nars used Nars Dark Rite Soft Touch Pencil, Night Flight Shadow and Tropic Eyeshadow to create a shimmery midnight eye, woken up a bit with Rue Bonaparte Larger Than Life beige eyeliner on the bottom inside eyelid. Cheeks got a smudge of Penny Lane Crème Blush, as did lips, which were topped with Nana Lip Gloss.

Hair, by Odile Gilbert for Kérastase, was left long and down, with a side part. Hair was gently waved on the bottom third of length, while at the front, hair was folded back on one side and secured with a comb, to create what Gilbert called a “sweet 16” look.

Nails, by Deborah Lippmann, were painted a pumped-up Lady Sings the Blues, whereby polishes had increased amounts of large glittery particles as compared with the usual formula. Toes were painted Fashion, an opaque nude.
