Kahlo and Cowboys Share Spotlight at Moschino

At Moschino, makeup artist Tom Pecheux conjured a chance encounter between Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and photographer Helmut Newton.

MILAN - At Moschino, makeup artist Tom Pecheux for MAC Cosmetics conjured a chance encounter between Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and photographer Helmut Newton.


Pecheux favored a strong, boyish eyebrow with smoky, smudgy notes achieved with MAC mascara – black for darker complexions and brown for the paler girls. After covering brows, the product was swept across upper and lower lashes.


Faces were treated with MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation and then MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder was dusted across the skin. Eyes were lined in Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline and lids were filled in with Eye Shadow Matte Carbon.  


"For makeup at Moschino, you always have that ingénue aspect – sweet and beautiful," Pecheux said about the nude lip. He used MAC Lip Erase lip concealer mainly on the cupid's bow and MAC Gloss Texture was added to the bottom lip.


Hairstylist Odile Gilbert worked around hats, headbands, and flowers - and the variety of fashion characters in Rosella Jardini's collection.


Each girl's hair was parted in the middle and then slicked down with L'Oréal Elnett Extra Strong Hold Hairspray. But final styles ranged from boyish to feminine. There were braided chignons gathered at the nape of the neck or braided extensions wrapped over the head and tied into various volumes.


"After Kahlo, just throw in a few cowboys and bullfighters," said Gilbert.
