Safaris and traveling fueled the inspiration for the backstage looks at Michael Kors’ show on Wednesday. “The thought is that the girls are on safari in Africa and don’t have much with them to groom themselves,” said Orlando Pita, the show’s key stylist. Pita began by making a center part and smoothing out the sides of the hair near the face — “that’s the only thing they can see,” he noted of his safari girls — and pulled the hair back, creating a deconstructed braid with leather cording (“their shoelaces,” said Pita) woven in throughout.
Dick Page, working with Shiseido at the show, kept the African safari theme going with warm, glowing skin and a caramel lip. “It’s safari and healthy — very money, money, money,” said Page. He warmed skin up with Shiseido bronzer and added concealer where necessary. Next, he turned his attention to creating a strong brow, intended to make the models’ brows appear two shades darker. He brushed brows down, then added Shiseido Shimmering Cream eye shadow in varying shades of brown — including Caviar, Sable and Leather from Shiseido’s fall color collection — keyed to the model’s coloring and finished with a touch of brow gel to keep everything in place.

Next, Page applied a touch of loose powder on eyelids, following up by applying Luminizing Satin Face Color in BE206 along the inner corner of the eye, slightly under the eye and lower lash line. Shiseido Cream Shadow in BE204, Meadow, was applied at the inner corner of each eye and in the middle section of the eyelid. Brown mascara was added on top lashes only. On the lips, Page used Luminizing Satin Face Color BE206 around the outside of the lip line to create a halo of highlight around the mouth, following up with an application of Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipstick in BE333, Caramel.
