An Edgier Beauty at Balmain

The beauty look at Balmain remained understated, but tinged with edginess this season.

PARIS — The beauty look at Balmain remained understated, but tinged with edginess this season.

“We’re doing very simple, cool Balmain girls. But this time — surprise — there’s a ponytail,” said hairstylist Sam McKnight. To imbue the look with a Spanish influence, he pulled models’ hair straight back behind their heads and ran his hands through their tresses for texture.

“There still is the rock ‘n’ roll reference the house has always had,” he continued. “This is the most severe thing I have done for Balmain.”

Typically, models down the Balmain runway have a blush of color on their cheeks. This time, faces’ contours were emphasized and peepers were swept with black and brown, said makeup artist Tom Pecheux. He dabbed lips with Chapstick.
