Guests at Sonia Rykiel could be forgiven for thinking they had just stepped into an awards ceremony, as French actresses including Nathalie Baye, Mélanie Thierry, Julie Depardieu and Rachida Brakni shared the front row with Dita Von Teese, Liz Goldwyn, Shingai Shoniwa and Mickey Green. “She’s original – that’s why everyone is here,” said Marie-Josée Croze. “That, and the fact that it’s a Saturday. It’s the only show I’m able to make because the rest of the time, I’m working on my new movie.” Croze is about to head to Tajikistan to star as an army doctor in “The Afghan Trap,” a fiction feature for Franco-German TV network Arte. Baye is preparing for the December release of “Full Treatment,” in which she stars as Audrey Tautou’s depressive mother, while Brakni will start filming next week opposite Joana Preiss in a movie by former porn director Hervé-Pierre Gustave. “It’s about [a lesbian couple] who want to have a child and break into a sperm bank,” said the actress, who is married to Eric Cantona. Canadian singer Béatrice Martin, a.k.a. Coeur de Pirate, had just returned from Los Angeles where she recorded her first tracks in English, a five-song E.P. for a side project called “Armistice” featuring Bedouin Soundclash singer Jay Malinowski. “We’re going off into a completely new musical direction, so I think people will be a bit surprised,” she said. Green, meanwhile, is writing songs for her new album, which she hopes to record next year. So what’s on her mind? “Boys!” she grinned.
