Much Obliged: Front Row at Gucci
Mary J. Blige turned up the celebrity volume at Gucci amid a subdued Milan season. Following her supporting role in Tyler Perry movie “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” released earlier this month, the Grammy Award-winning singer and actress will take the title role in an upcoming biopic of Nina Simone.
Shooting starts soon, Blige said, teasing, “When I have a date, I’ll let you know.” Also on the front row was former Japanese soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata. After spending the majority of his playing career and more than a decade overseas, Nakata said he was enjoying getting to know his native country again. “I’ve been traveling around Japan to rediscover it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the presence of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott also signaled a change in photographers for future Gucci advertising. Over the summer, the duo shot Gucci’s cruise collection in Barcelona for a campaign that will break in November titles, and next month they are headed to Miami to shoot the spring/summer campaign, a Gucci spokesman confirmed. Previously, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot Gucci’s fashion campaigns.
