Scoop: Marcia Gay Harden Heads to Douglas Hannant

Fresh from a screening of the Drew Barrymore-directed “Whip It” in Toronto, Marcia Gay Harden arrived for the spring presentation.

HANNANT EXHIBIT: Fresh from a screening of the Drew Barrymore-directed “Whip It” at the Toronto Film Festival, Marcia Gay Harden, who plays the mother of a teenage roller derby contestant, arrived at the Plaza’s Terrace Room for Douglas Hannant’s spring presentation. The event drew a steady stream of Hannant customers. “[Douglas] sees me,” said Harden, wearing the designer’s black dress with plunging white bodice. “It’s nice when a designer gets you and allows your different facets to play. His clothes have an edge, but not a rough edge.” Beneath an ornate ceiling painted with angels and cherubs, Hannant’s gowns, worn by mannequins perched on pedestals, looked as if they could be part of a museum exhibition of Greek or Roman sculpture. “My inspiration was Venus,” Hannant said.

Asked what she plans to do after “God of Carnage” — the play’s original cast is set to leave the show Nov. 14 — Harden said: “I’m going to go to Italy, then I’m going to do a small movie in the city. [‘God’] is going to be a hard act to follow.”
