Buoyed up by industry buzz, and a front row replete with amici Margherita Missoni, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, Francesco Scognamiglio delivered a pretty collection worthy of the hype surrounding him. Scognamiglio’s blend of Eighties and Thirties silhouettes had a high-quality sensibility, in short cream jackets with jutting shoulders and knee-length skirts and dresses lavished with oversize ruffles and plumage.
Scognamiglio is no newcomer to the fashion scene, since he showed his first collection in 2001. So why all the sudden hype? For starters, Madonna recently wore his sheer black ruched blouse in her “Give It 2 Me” video. And a year ago he signed a production and distribution license with Kabi Sri, and it’s anticipated that sales by the end of this year will reach $3.8 million — quadrupling 2007’s figures.
