There’s an Eighties theme running through spring, and Benz — who was in diapers when Jennifer Beals cut up her sweatshirt in “Flashdance” — was yet another designer to glance back to the Reagan years, this time with off-the-shoulder T-shirts and frayed jeans in rainbow brights. He then leapt forward to the Nineties with slouchy pants hanging south of the hips, revealing boxers at the waist. The best pieces, though, didn’t reference any singular moment, i.e., sexy diaphanous camisoles paired with low-waisted city shorts and cropped military coats with tails. The sharp tailoring on those jackets evidenced staying power, but let’s hope Benz doesn’t get nostalgic for high-waisted mom jeans next time around.
