Ballantyne RTW Spring 2009
There's a new face at Ballantyne, that of creative director Dawidh Di Firmo, and he’s hoping to put a fresh spin on the Scottish cashmere brand. He offered up novel takes on the company’s trademark diamond motif, for instance, then dove into the archives to revive floral prints and turn them into abstracts and geometrics. Also old-yet-new-again: the cotton candy-esque hues of pinks, lilacs and lavenders. That said, the mood still hewed closely to the Ballantyne roots in casual classics, with ample servings of prepster chic. Di Firmo worked a major country club feel in his summer dresses and intarsia twinsets and pullovers. Pants, meanwhile, came freshly cropped and as for skirts — it was all about a swingy front-button kilt, which nicely nodded to the company provenance.
