Anne Valérie Hash RTW Spring 2009
Anne Valérie Hash has always been a girl of contrasts, consistently toying with the masculine and feminine, sheer and opaque, and on and on. This season, she added one more rather intriguing point-counterpoint: past and future, giving the collection a slightly sci-fi feel in the prettiest, most romantic way, of course. Her girl, including muse Lou Liza Lesage, stormed the runway like goddess warriors from another planet, bedecked in a gunmetal mesh-and-draped gown hybrid or simple sleek dresses in hologram-like hues. The look was strong and confident, without being too edgily tough. Her gentler moments gained points too, with plenty of alluring Grecian drapes and twists on simple tanks and column gowns, and the designer actually made a strong case for putting jumpsuits on the red carpet. Case in point: the elegant, one-shouldered deep red onesie. While there were a few misses, the collection provided just the right balance of Grès-like gentility and chic structure.
