Richard Nicoll: Herb Ritts Inspired

Hair and makeup were decidedly damp at Richard Nicoll Wednesday.

Hair and makeup were decidedly damp at Richard Nicoll Wednesday.

“It’s slightly Herb Ritts,” said makeup artist Sam Bryant, who was working with MAC Cosmetics. “The emphasis is on the eyebrows. We’re making them look fuller and more masculine.”

Bryant prepped skin with MAC Pro oils to give it a shine and concealed blemishes with foundation where needed. A wash of color in a sepia hue was brushed onto eyelids and lashes were accentuated with a little mascara. Eyebrows were brushed up and filled using MAC Eye Brows pencils, including the Lingering shade. Before models took to the runway, a smidge of Clear Gloss was applied to cheeks and lips.

Hair was also inspired by Ritts’ photographs, according to stylist James Rowe, who was working with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.art and added a Fifties touch to coifs.

Hair was dried using Tecni.art Pli before Tecni.art Liss Control serum was worked through with a wide-tooth comb to create a slick wet look. It was then worked into a rope braid, the end of which was tucked under, while finger waves high on the head imparted a Fifties feel. The look was finished with Infinium hair spray.
