Miss Sixty Channels The 70's

Makeup artist Romy Soleimani for MAC Cosmetics took a bold approach with her Seventies, pinup-inspired eyes.

Flashy colors dominated the Miss Sixty runway, but lead hairstylist Leonardo Manetti, working with British hair care brand GHD, kept hair downplayed in a manner he describes as “beach rock n’ roll,” an undone, wavy style with a touch of sophistication.

“We didn’t want to overpower the clothes with too much in the hair,” he says. “We kept it simple and unromantic.” To create the look, Manetti first blow-dried hair straight, then used a mousse and back-combed to add volume. Folding sections in half, he used a flat iron to press the hair together, creating random waves and folds around the entire head. Manetti finished the style with a holding spray and shine mist.

To form an oval shape reminiscent of the decade, Soleimani lined the entire eye with a black pencil from MAC and stretched the line to the crease. On top, she added a black pigment and a purple glitter to create a “three-dimensional disco” look. MAC’s upcoming mascara, Dazzle, was layered on lashes for a dramatic effect.

“When creating the look, I think of those posters of Farrah Fawcett with her cut-off shorts and striped socks,” she says. “She’s sexy, but she’s also iconic, confident and strong.”

Faces were kept neutral and clean, and lips followed suit with brunette models only sporting a sheer pink gloss and blonde models wearing a clear gloss.
