At the Betsey Johnson show Tuesday, the makeup and hair — true to form — channeled the designer’s signature attributes of over the top and fun.
Inspired by Johnson’s call for a Kings Road version of Tinker Bell, hairstylist Italo Gregario for Redken selected synthetic wigs in pastel hues (pink, purple and teal), and then cut them into a sharp bob style — shorter at the back and longer angles toward the front with bangs trimmed straight across the tops of the brows. To create texture in the wigs, which were steamed straight, Gregario and his crew sprayed Spray Starch throughout and worked Fabricate onto the ends. He then used a blowdryer to give the wigs “life,” and finished by spritzing the slightly disheveled locks with hairspray.
Makeup was equally whimsical, with makeup artist Fulvia Farolfi for Make Up For Ever creating a doll-like face. She swept a pearlized white shade onto eyelids and affixed lengthy false eyelashes — which stuck straight out — to the middle of the lash line, and drew four lashes in black pencil down the cheeks, which at the apples were made bright pink. She completed the look with a heart-shaped pout in a pinkish-red shade. Skin was kept clean and perfected with moisturizer mixed with foundation, and lightly dusted with loose powder.
