At the BCBG Max Azria show Friday morning, flirty layers and angular shapes were offset by a minimal-looking, natural face with a few hard edges.
"The clothes are quite dancerlike and asymmetrical," said makeup artist Lisa Butler for Nars Cosmetics. "We didn't want to do anything to take away from the look, so we went for a less girly look."
Butler and her crew left models' skin bare, cleaning it up if need be with an oil-free foundation. She swept a sparking purple shade, called Habanera, on the lids and blended and buffed it past the eye sockets. She then applied to the lower, inner lash line a stroke of Kyoto, a shimmering oil green liner, to “hardened it up a bit.”
She added some definition by buffing the Casino shade bronzing powder on the neck and around the face. Lips were kept bare. As a last step, models arms and legs were perfected with a combination of facial foundation and moisturizer.
For hair, Bumble and bumble’s Laurent Philippon parted hair in the middle and added hair extensions if needed to create length. Describing the girl who would wear this look, he says, “She’s partying. She’s sexy and she takes care of herself.” He used B&b Prep and Styling Lotion to create a polished but slightly imperfect finish. Referring to the result, he said, “It was polished once. But now she’s lived in it.”
