Inspired by Pondicherry, a former French colony in southern India, Bibhu Mohapatra took cues from colonial architecture and interiors for his resort collection. Targeting a free-spirited woman, he turned out a vibrant and beautiful collection based on a medallion print he designed with a French baroque style. The motif turned up on printed jersey Ts, patterned shirtdresses, embroidered gowns and sculptural jacquard cocktail frocks. Mohapatra showed his deft craftsmanship not only in eveningwear, but also with a delicate laser-cut leather appliqué on a silk organza jacket and coat. Nighttime saw high-drama gowns with such details as dainty reembroidered lace, hand beading and gentle pleats.
