Tom Ford brought the laidback spirit of the American southwest to a luxe collection that put the spotlight on sportswear — and jeans — rather than suiting. “A lot of it is inspired by the side of my life most of you would never see,” said Ford, a Texas native with a ranch in Santa Fe, before a brief showroom presentation. “I always wear jeans, but that’s in New Mexico. There’s definitely a bit of Western feel to this because it’s what I wear.”

The latest collection, he added, is also about 15 to 20 percent less than the brand’s regular classic tailoring. Ford pumped up his denim offer, introducing a variety of new washes, fits, and fabrics, while models strode out in fringed leather jackets, or suede ones in colors such as rust, corn or burnt orange. There were stacks of checked shirts with snap fronts, indigo sweatshirts meant to fade like jeans, leather cowboy boots, and even silver feather-shaped cuffs. Among the few formal looks on show were evening jackets in moiré silk or with a marbled jacquard pattern.
