Loewe Men's RTW Spring 2015

Jonathan Anderson’s first design effort for Loewe brought a youthful air into the Spanish leather goods company.

Jonathan Anderson’s first design effort for Loewe brought a youthful air into the Spanish leather goods company owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. The young designer, who hails from Northern Ireland, dusted off the house’s accessories, crafting its signature Amazona bag from Oro suede leather in a larger format and introducing a range of new calf leather trolleys in oxblood, tan, smoke and navy with archival graphic seams.

As for the ready-to-wear: “I asked myself how do you get a leather company to reflect the light and effortless allure of people on the beach?” Anderson explained during a walk-through in the company’s new digs on Place Saint Sulpice in Paris. He said he searched for clues on the vast beaches of Cadiz in southern Spain.

Anderson did not entirely shake off his personal handwriting. His unisex approach to fashion, a signature trait of his London-based J.W. Anderson, could be felt in the asymmetrically cut cotton shirts and body-hugging knitted tops, featuring a multi-colored intarsia rib, which he says took three months to figure out.

Among the more classic pieces were tailored suede coats and a slightly distressed Kangaroo leather trench, as well as leather outerwear that was water resistant. The designer also proposed a languid two-button suit, a first for the leather goods maker.
