In the Spotlight at Yves Saint Laurent Men’s Show
UNDERCOVER: Samuel Benchetrit had a good excuse for the beard he sported front row at the Yves Saint Laurent men’s show Friday: The French actor is due to start shooting in March what will be his second movie in less than a year with director Jacques Doillon, father of actress Lou Doillon. “I play a hermit. It’s him. I’m always playing Jacques Doillon — with a beard, this time around,” Benchetrit said. Not that he minds. “Being the alter ego of Claude Zidi, I don’t know,” he said, referring to the director of low-brow French comedies. “But Jacques Doillon? It’s not bad.”
Meanwhile, Nicolas Maury is on a roll, having played opposite Isabelle Huppert and Carmen Maura last year. “These two women are really role models for me, so the best you can wish me for the year ahead is to be as radical as they are in my choices,” the actor said. Starting next month, Maury will star with French singer Camille in Henrik Ibsen’s “The Lady from the Sea” at Paris’ Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord. This summer, he will premiere Guillaume Vincent’s “La nuit tombe” (“Night Falls,” in English) at the Avignon Theater Festival, before shooting a feature with first-time director Yann Gonzalez in the fall.
