Giorgio Armani is accusing Christian Dior of a “lack of respect for other people’s time and labor” in switching the time of its couture show on Monday, prompting the Italian designer to postpone his Privé show to a 9 p.m. start, from 7:30 p.m. The designer called the Dior change “last-minute, unexpected and unjustifiable,” and apologized for the “forced” rescheduling. Such squabbles often erupt during the ready-to-wear shows, when designers showing in close time slots vie for top models, but it’s rare during couture. Dior declined comment. The French firm is again showing at its Avenue Montaigne headquarters, and has scheduled two shows, at 2:30 and 5 p.m.
Meanwhile in Milan on Tuesday, Formula One driver Giancarlo Fisichella attended the Giorgio Armani show for the first time, after wearing the label when he got married three months ago. On the work front, Fisichella said he’s tried on his Ferrari jumpsuit and is ready to roll. Model Alessia Piovan, who has started her acting career with a role in the Rob Marshall film “Nine,” said knowing English has led to several auditions in Los Angeles. “I’m working on my accent,” she said, noting she’s also trying out for acting parts in France. “All these beautiful people,” marveled Scottish rocker Paolo Nutini, taking a break from recording his second album by attending his first Milan Fashion Week. “I’ve heard they do it better here,” he laughed.
