Dolce & Gabbana Collection

Sicily or Bust

European actors Margareth Madé, Toby Kebbell and Rhys Ifans took in the Dolce & Gabbana show.

While director Giuseppe Tornatore was in Los Angeles supporting his Golden Globes-nominated movie "Baarìa," the film's stars were in Milan fielding questions about its sudden success. "No one expected all the attention," lead actor Francesco Scianna said before the Emporio Armani show on Saturday. "It's a movie that helps discover passions and makes you dream, with Sicily's charm and magic as a background."

Scianna's next role conjures up grittier images: He plays Seventies-era Milanese underworld mobster Francis Turatello. Later, Scianna joined Giorgio Armani for dinner at the revamped Emporio Armani Caffe, along with Lapo Elkann and his stylish posse.

On the opposite side of town, Margareth Madé, who plays Scianna's wife in "Baarìa," took in the Dolce & Gabbana show. Madé, who just wrapped up "La mia casa è piena di specchi" ("My House Is Full of Mirrors"), in which she plays Sophia Loren and appears alongside the actress, said she's evaluating her next project. "After Tornatore and Sophia Loren? It's a pretty tough act to follow." said Madé.

Toby Kebbell, also at the Dolce & Gabbana show with fellow actor Rhys Ifans, knows exactly what he would "love" to play next: "A convincing female," he said, citing Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie" as a favorite. Kebbell, whose "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" are due out this year, sported a hefty gold pirate ring embellished with a diamond cross and a skull. "I always buy some kind of accessory for my movies. It helps me get into character," he explained. Uli Becker, president of Reebok International, also took in the Emporio show to unveil new co-branded EA7 sneakers. The two companies "have overlapping objectives, as Reebok is looking for style credentials and can provide Armani with sport innovation and technology," Becker said.
