FRIGHT NIGHT: If Adam Kimmel’s men’s wear presentation were a film, you could probably file it under horror. Models in monster masks played roulette and blackjack, making for a ghoulish scene at the Yvon Lambert art gallery Thursday night.
The spectacle went down a treat with the cinema-heavy crowd, which included directors Zoe Cassavetes and Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Kimmel’s fiancée, actress Leelee Sobieski.
Kimmel said he took his cues from the wardrobe of New York-based painter George Condo, which translated into cashmere V-necks and blazers with baccarat-print linings. “They are real clothes, but with added old-school elements,” he explained.
Cassavetes welcomed the opportunity to take a break from writing her next movie, which she hopes to start filming by year-end. “I’m trying not to jump out of the window, because it’s been the longest winter,” she said. Jeunet said he was giving fashion projects a rest after shooting a commercial for Chanel last year with actress Audrey Tautou. “I have a hard time imagining that I could do better,” he said.
There was one person who was not put off by the creepy headgear, inspired by Condo’s paintings and created by Gabe Bartalos, a Hollywood prosthetics artist who has worked with artist Matthew Barney. “That’s magnificent,” said actress Lou Doillon, pointing at one of the creations.
