Salvatore Ferragamo Collection

Salvatore Ferragamo Men's RTW Fall 2009
Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi’s moody palette seeped into Ferragamo designer Massimiliano Giornetti’s poetic fall collection. Drawing inspiration from Scandinavia – and focusing on pure lines and natural fabrics – Giornetti followed a more sober path in tune with the global downturn. “It’s not a time for showing off,” he said. Giornetti put a romantic spin on tradition with spectacular tailoring and a return to artisanal traditions. Chunky cable knits – such as a pearl gray cardigan or chocolate brown scarf – were all handmade. Even the sublimely cut sartorial looks, such as double-breasted cashmere suits or duffle coats in creamy hues, had a soft touch. While repetitive, this coherent and sophisticated collection was in tune with these quiet times.
