An Artful Evening in Paris

Fashion and art collided in more ways than one Adam Kimmel’s fall presentation at Paris’ Thaddaeus Ropac gallery.

CRUNCH BUNCH: Fashion and art collided in more ways than one Adam Kimmel’s fall presentation Thursday night at Paris’ Thaddaeus Ropac gallery. Screen tests for the event by legendary Andy Warhol collaborator Gerard Malanga, the first in 40 years, were projected on the wall featuring the likes of Willem Dafoe, Matthew Barney, David Blaine, who was filmed holding his breath for a paltry three minutes, and glamazon actress Leelee Sobieski, who at the event dropped the name of her latest film: “Mad Cow.” Also caught on film, Interview’s multitasking editor-in-chief Christopher Bollen said he’s putting the finishing touches on his first novel, which involves a murder. “You may even be able to recognize a few fashion and art characters in it,” teased Bollen, noting Interview’s March issue includes an interview by contributing fashion editor Stephanie Seymour Brant with Azzedine Alaia. New York-based artist Aaron Young said his next artistic endeavor, an installation scheduled for Art Basel in June, will involve the world’s strongest man, a sledgehammer and a muscle car. “There will be no burnt out motorcycles,” he said, referring to the dramatic performance he staged in New York last year. And could a collaboration of another kind be on the cards? Young disclosed he’d been hanging out with close pal Stefano Pilati of Yves Saint Laurent. The credit crunch has left Lou Doillon with time on her hands. “I’ve got four movies just waiting for budgets to be approved,” said the actress adding that if investors continue to drag their feet on her plans for a Parisian concept store, she may well go it alone. “I’ll either open a tiny store soon or a big one later” she said, adding her latest fashion crush is Balmain. Also indulging in recession talk, House of Waris’ Waris Ahluwalia, who will present his latest jewelry designs at Colette January 26, disclosed he’s conceived a line of “politically correct” cufflinks for tie brand Alexander Olch. “The theme is Morse code, there’s V for Victory, SOS,” he said.
