MULTITASKING MEN: “Music and fashion have always been symbiotic,” said Virgil Abloh, himself a multihyphenate, at the Balenciaga after-party on Thursday night in Paris’ Le Yoyo venue at the Palais de Tokyo. The architect-turned-DJ-turned-fashion designer of his new label Off-White noted how “musicians are great advertisers — with Instagram and all that is going on. But I’m a 50-50 kind of guy.”
Speaking of multitasking men, Marcelo Burlon — whose online profile reads “creative director, p.r., DJ and husband” — said: “Instagram is how I connect with my customers. That’s what I do.”
His streetwear brand is stocked in 400 stores. “We make 12 million euros [or $17 million at current exchange] in sales per season, eight of which are with men’s wear,” he said. Asked about Pitti Uomo, for which he will design in June, Burlon promised it was going to be an all-enveloping experience, of “sports, music and fashion.”
“I just want to dance,” said Simon Porte Jacquemus, citing his preferred recipe for decompression after staging a full-blown runway show at the Palais de Tokyo on Tuesday. The designer said he was already working on the next collection.
“The brand is growing so fast into a business,” he said. “The number of our stockists grew from 30 to 70 in one season.”
Louis-Marie de Castelbajac’s new clothing line Le Void, which has a strong focus on knitwear, is slated to hit stores in mid-March. “We found a nice mix of Japanese and L.A.-based shops for it,” said the French nobleman, sporting Scottish plaid for the evening. His line of high-end Armagnac, meanwhile, is also having a good run.
Christopher Kane, Alice Glass, Esteban Cortazar, and Samantha and Vanessa Traina were also spotted among the guests.
