RAISING KANE: There was no shortage of too-cool-for-school musicians at the Saint Laurent show in Paris on Monday, but for sheer rock ’n’ roll attitude, it was hard to beat Alex Turner and Miles Kane. The Last Shadow Puppets bandmates rolled up with an open bottle of Ruinart Champagne and two full glasses. “It follows us around. We just arrive and it’s just there, you know,” Kane drawled from behind dark glasses. The Brit musicians insisted their color-coordinated red-and-black outfits were also a product of chance. “This was a complete accident,” claimed Turner. “It’s a sort of a sixth sense.”
By contrast, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the duo who form the multiple Grammy Award-winning band Daft Punk, kept a low-verging-on-invisible profile. The two never pose for photographs without their signature robot-style helmets.
Clementine Creevy said the track “Had Ten Dollaz,” which her band Cherry Glazerr recorded for the show, was an autobiographical song, of sorts. “I only had $10 and I wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes, so I spent, like, all my money on cigarettes, and then I didn’t have any money left,” explained the singer.
Jamie Bochert hoped to enlist Hedi Slimane to do artwork for “White Light,” the first single from her as-yet-untitled album, which she aims to release this year. Valérie Trierweiler, meanwhile, was still figuring out her next move after her very public split from French President François Hollande in the wake of the revelation in January that he was having an affair with actress Julie Gayet. “I’m working on some new projects,” the journalist and broadcaster said.
Also attending the show were Pierre Bergé, Betty Catroux, Catherine Deneuve, Kate Moss, Jade Jagger, Jean Paul Gaultier, Peter Dundas, Bobby Gillespie, Karen Elson, Élodie Bouchez, Romain Duris, Fabrizio Moretti, Alison Mosshart, Emmanuelle Seigner and Isabelle Huppert.
