NEITHER SNOW NOR RAIN: Getting to Ralph Lauren’s show Thursday morning in Manhattan required dedication. A nor’easter was well on its way to dumping almost a foot of snow on Manhattan. Kim Basinger, despite the weather, was right there beaming in the front row, all glorious 60 years of her.
“They just asked me to come and, of course, I jumped on it,” the actress said. “I’m not doing a film right now. I was at home in L.A., and I was like, ‘I’ll be there. I don’t care what the weather is.’”
She’s been a longtime fan of the designer and met him for the first time backstage.
“I just love him. I’ve always loved him, for many years. He’s just simple, American beauty,” she said.
Lauren’s team flew her out from the West Coast and put her up in a hotel, though even this morning she was skeptical the show would go on.
“We had no visibility on the 31st floor,” she said. “I’m so shocked at everybody and all these people are so dedicated, must be so dedicated because it was a frightmare getting here.”
Basinger’s daughter with her ex-husband Alec Baldwin, Ireland Baldwin, has been making the rounds this fashion week, at parties anyway, but Basinger would only attend this show.
“I’m going home Saturday,” she said. By the time Lauren’s presentation ended, the National Weather Service measured 9.5 inches in Central Park.
