Roberto Cavalli Rails Against Celebrity Dressing

Designer laments, “I wish fashion were less tied to communication and stars.”

SHOOTING STARS: While his entourage did its best to keep Roberto Cavalli from making any comment about a possible sale of his company, the designer spoke freely about celebrities getting paid to wear designer labels.
“I wish fashion were less tied to communication and stars. I can’t understand all these fashion companies spending millions to dress celebrities. And the fault is also that of the media that fuel this frenzy,” the designer said before his Just Cavalli show on Thursday. When one reporter pointed out that Cavalli may have had a hand in this, the designer firmly denied it. “I don’t care to spend millions to dress Lady Gaga so that she can say she is wearing my clothes. That’s why I have pulled out of the Oscars circuit and I go to the Grammys. It’s different there,” he said.
