'Severe, Tight' Hair Defines Prada Look

MILAN — For the Prada show, hairstylist Guido Palau imagined an off-duty ballerina running out to a late dinner with her basic bun intact.

Hair was lightly blow-dried and Redken Move Ability Flex 05 was raked through before Palau pulled it into a middle-parted bun. “It's not overdone — it's a very basic, tight, severe hair,” he said.

Makeup artist Pat McGrath worked with three basic elements — red lips, black mascara and blue eye shadow. Some models wore rich, stained lips knocked down to subtle transparency, while other models applied their own lipsticks in freehand, organic stains.

“The whole idea of the slash of red on the mouth and the idea of the mouth being worn away is based on the cinematic scope of Visconti — showing different levels of real makeup and never overworked," McGrath said.

Strong lashes were clumped with black mascara, and eyebrows were groomed and filled in.
