Nina Ricci Show Features Live Piano

Katia and Marielle Labèque played music by Philip Glass at the show.

EBONY AND IVORY: The Nina Ricci show in Paris on Thursday featured a live piano performance by sisters Katia and Marielle Labèque, who played a Philip Glass piece.

“His music is quite insistent, so you can walk to it,” Katia Labèque explained backstage after the show.

Labèque said she was initially afraid the noise of camera shutters would distract her, but by the end of her performance, she was oblivious to outside noise. “You end up getting used to it. In some concert halls, there is horrible noise from the air conditioning,” she noted.

The sisters, who were dressed in two different black chiffon Nina Ricci gowns, were introduced to the house’s creative director, Peter Copping, by Chicago retailer Ikram Goldman.

Next month, they will perform Mendelssohn’s “Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra” with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
