TALKING CINEMA: Laura Smet and Mylène Jampanoï made sensible use of their time while waiting for Barbara Bui’s rock ’n’ roll show to kick off. The two actresses chatted animatedly about the ailing French film industry, which they unanimously branded très compliqué.

“It’s hard to put a movie out at the moment, because the financing is so scarce,” deplored an otherwise joyous-looking Smet, who seemed excited about putting out her very first album. “It’s going to be very personal. French pop rock,” she revealed.

Jampanoï has ambitious plans of her own. Her movie “La Mante Religieuse” is due for release in September and a script she cowrote with fellow actress Nora Arnezeder is waiting in the wings.

“We realized we had both written the same story. Incredible, isn’t it? We had to make them one. So it’s now called ‘Jour et Nuit’ [or ‘Day and Night,’ in English]. Nora is the day, because she is so luminous, and I represent the night with my dark side,” Jampanoï quipped, looking just that in a black-and-white ensemble and vertiginous pair of black-lacquered Mary Janes.
