The beauty look of the show had a “punky” vibe.

PARIS — Jean Paul Gaultier dreamed up with the idea of putting a wig atop models’ tresses and also had in mind the clashing colors as a dye job grows out — and the beauty look of his show followed on from there, according hairstylist Guido Palau backstage.

Each model’s wig was cut somewhat differently into a kind of toupee, he continued, adding they had a kind of “boyish quality.”

“I suppose it’s punky,” said Palau, who used Redken Control Addict 28 High Control Hairspray. “It’s kind of choppy, spiky, a bit sort of Nineties, in a way.”

Makeup artist Lloyd Simmonds took a lead from the coifs, going after what he described as “something really fresh and boyish, but really sophisticated and something that just framed the character of the girls, enhanced their character without being too makeup-y. So the thing that gives the most character to a face is the eyebrows.”

Simmonds filled those in. And cheeks were made somewhat rosy for a look that’s healthy and not too Goth, he said.

On models’ skin, Simmonds applied Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Teint Touche Éclat foundation.
