Guests at Gilles Mendel’s show Thursday may have noticed Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen were in the house. The twin designers weren’t eyeing the competition. They are close family friends with Alec Gores, founder of The Gores Group, which has a significant stake in J. Mendel. Gores could prove to be a good friend to have down-the-road. Just last week the exec said recently that his company will continue to invest in select apparel companies.
