ALL IN A DAY’S WORK: Gucci’s show in Milan on Wednesday drew a slew of fashion multitaskers. Alek Wek, who has her own handbag line, said it was her first time sitting front row rather than walking the runway. The model, who came as a guest of Amica magazine’s editor in chief Cristina Lucchini, said she would be returning to her birth country, South Sudan, in July to shoot a documentary with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to commemorate the first anniversary of its independence. Though she has been modeling since 1995, Wek won’t be staying off the catwalk long. “Maybe the end of the week I’ll do one or two [shows],” she teased.
Tamara Falco has been juggling her role as ambassador for bridal chain Pronovias with working for her father, the Marqués de Griñon, who produces olive oil and wine under the family name. “Fashion is my passion, so I make time for it. With my father, it’s very easy to work, because I’ve got my own schedule, so I just have to get the work done and I can more or less juggle everything,” she said.
Model Clara Paget proudly showed off her black Gucci Bamboo bag to other guests. But she hopes to combine fashion with film in future. “I’ve just been doing a whole load of auditions — it’s pilot season in America,” she explained. “I’ll keep doing both whilst I can, but definitely the acting is my passion and that’s what I want to pursue.”
There was one person who had leisure on her mind, though. Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan said she was taking “a long vacation” and that it was her first time in Milan. Meanwhile, Fiat heir Lapo Elkann said he was going East in April to develop the Fiat 500 by Gucci in China.
