Die hard fashion lovers huddled outside the make shift ice rink outside the Standard Hotel for the Elise Øverland show Saturday night. At times shivering uncomfortably, models struck a pose atop clear plastic lily pads placed on the ice, while figure skaters, also wearing Øverland’s clothes, maneuvered gracefully. Only one skater fell during the 90-minute presentation. Trying to stay warm, the crowd sipped glogg and snapped photos, as reporters, many of whom hailed from the designer’s native Norway, grumbled about the cold. That was forgotten when Olympic skater Johnny Weir took to the ice, effortlessly performing a routine replete with jumps and spins. In full regalia, Weir’s signature punk rock hair and dramatic black eye make up complemented a long metallic cape, dark fur vest and glittery skates. Sadly, the skates weren’t the custom-made Louboutins he bragged to the press about last month.
“I haven’t broken them in yet,” Weir told WWD moments before skating. “This is all Elise Øverland.”
