"Who needs caviar?" Rosita Missoni asked at the surprise party Thursday night for her designing daughter's 50th birthday. "Angela has always loved polenta. I thought we wouldn't serve anything super fancy and just go with what would make her happy," she said of Italy's poor man's grits.

No matter: The birthday girl looked suitably impressed when she showed up at the venue where the show was held a few hours earlier. Among the guests, in addition to the large Missoni clan, were Mario Testino and Margherita Missoni's childhood friend Allegra Versace.
